KRISTALMASS travels below the shipping lanes, cataloguing species absent from every public survey. The crew studies organisms that retain recorded speech, nerve tissue growing through abandoned fibre-optic cables, and signals arriving from research stations that were never built.
Sample provenance is disputed. Several corporate archives describe the same discoveries years before the vessel departed.
